English I
This course provides students with a knowledge and understanding of the process of human reproduction, as well as sexually transmitted diseases, and women’s health issues in the context of our overall philosophy, which emphasizes respect and reverence for the human person and in relation to the exploration of self, relationships, and life realities explored through the rest of the curriculum on this grade level.
Algebra I Honors*
Algebra I Honors offers a rigorous introduction to algebraic concepts, emphasizing critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning. Students explore linear equations, inequalities, functions, polynomials, and quadratic expressions at an accelerated pace. This course prepares students for advanced math courses and fosters a strong foundation for future STEM studies.
Biology
Biology is a lab-based science course that explores the study of living organisms and their interactions with the environment. Topics include cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, and human body systems. Hands-on laboratory investigations reinforce scientific concepts and develop skills in observation, analysis, and experimentation.
World Language I Honors * (French or Spanish)
This introductory honors course offers a dynamic and accelerated start to language learning in French or Spanish. Students develop foundational skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while gaining insight into the cultures of the Francophone or Hispanic world. Through interactive activities and real-life applications, students begin to build confidence in communication and prepare for advanced language study.
Mentoring & Academic Support
This course provides students with structured time and guidance to strengthen academic skills, develop effective study habits, and set personal and academic goals. Through one-on-one mentoring, peer collaboration, and targeted support, students build confidence, improve organization, and take ownership of their learning. The program fosters a supportive environment where students are encouraged to grow both academically and personally.
English I Honors *
English I Honors is a rigorous, foundational course designed for ninth-grade students who demonstrate strong reading and writing skills. Through the study of classic and contemporary literature, poetry, drama, and nonfiction, students will develop critical thinking, analytical writing, and close reading skills. Emphasis is placed on literary analysis, grammar, vocabulary development, and effective written and oral communication. This course prepares students for advanced English coursework and fosters a deeper appreciation for language and storytelling.
Algebra II
This course is designed for the basic senior mathematics student who desires a fourth year of high school mathematics. The course introduces the student to additional and more advanced concepts of Algebra II and the basics of Trigonometry. Since this is a basic level course the emphasis is to introduce students to the topics and help them to understand the concepts at a basic level.
Biology Honors *
Biology Honors is an accelerated, lab-based course that explores the fundamental principles of life science. Students investigate cell structure, genetics, evolution, ecology, and human biology through inquiry-based learning and hands-on experimentation. Emphasizing critical thinking and scientific analysis, this course prepares students for advanced science studies and nurtures a deep understanding of the living world.
Religious Studies I
Religious Studies 1 introduces students to the foundational beliefs, practices, and histories of major world religions. Through discussion, reflection, and comparative study, students explore themes such as faith, ethics, and the role of religion in society. The course encourages respect, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of diverse religious traditions.
Physical Education
This course promotes lifelong fitness, health, and wellness through a variety of physical activities, sports, and exercise routines. Students develop strength, coordination, teamwork, and healthy habits while learning the importance of physical activity for overall well-being. Emphasis is placed on personal growth, goal-setting, and maintaining an active lifestyle in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Algebra I
Algebra I introduces students to foundational algebraic concepts including variables, equations, inequalities, and functions. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving and applying algebra to real-world situations. This course prepares students for higher-level math and standardized assessments.
World Cultures
World Cultures explores the customs, beliefs, history, and geography of diverse societies around the globe. Students examine how culture shapes identity, influences global interactions, and contributes to today’s interconnected world. The course encourages critical thinking, cultural awareness, and respect for global diversity.
World Language I
(French or Spanish)
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of the French or Spanish language, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Students also explore cultural traditions, customs, and geography of the countries where the language is spoken. The course emphasizes communication and cultural understanding to build a strong foundation for continued language study.
Choir
This engaging choir course offers students the opportunity to develop their vocal skills while exploring a variety of musical styles, including classical, contemporary, and popular music. Through vocal exercises, group rehearsals, and performances, students will improve their technique, sight-reading abilities, and musicality. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, harmony, and performance preparation, fostering a supportive environment where students can build confidence and a love for choral music.
