English II

This is a reading and writing course using a variety of classic / multi-cultural texts*.  The underlying theme of the year is diversity or “dealing with differences” in the human community.  Reading, critical thinking, listening, oral communication, research and writing skills are further developed.  The approach to reading is thematic; however, careful attention is given to developing an understanding of the different genres of literature as they are presented.  Vocabulary development is a priority.

Geometry Honors *

Geometry Honors is a fast-paced, in-depth study of geometric concepts designed for students with strong mathematical abilities. The course emphasizes logical reasoning, formal proofs, and advanced problem-solving strategies while covering topics such as congruence, similarity, circles, coordinate geometry, transformations, and three-dimensional figures. Students are challenged to think critically and apply geometric principles to real-world and theoretical situations, preparing them for higher-level math courses.

World Language Level II
(French or Spanish)

World Language Level II builds on the foundational skills developed in Level I, with continued emphasis on listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language. Students expand their vocabulary, deepen their understanding of grammar, and engage more confidently in conversations and cultural exploration. Through interactive activities and authentic materials, students strengthen their communication skills and gain a broader appreciation of the cultures where the language is spoken.

The course covers essential topics such as traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, vehicle operation, and road safety. Through classroom instruction and practical training (where offered), students gain the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a learner’s permit and eventually a driver's license.

English II Honors *

English II Honors offers a more rigorous exploration of world literature, challenging students to engage deeply with texts from a variety of cultures and time periods. Emphasis is placed on critical analysis, advanced writing techniques, and thoughtful discussion. Students will strengthen their skills in literary interpretation, argumentation, research, and grammar while expanding their global perspective through reading and writing.

Biomedical Science

Biomedical Science introduces students to the exciting world of health and medical science through hands-on labs, real-world case studies, and interactive projects. Students explore human body systems, disease prevention, medical research, and biotechnology while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This course is ideal for students interested in healthcare, biology, or a future career in the medical field.

World Language Level II Honors * (French or Spanish)

This honors-level course builds on foundational language skills through an immersive and accelerated curriculum. Students deepen their proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while exploring the rich cultural traditions of the Francophone or Hispanic world. Emphasis is placed on conversational fluency, advanced grammar structures, and authentic texts. Designed for motivated learners, this course challenges students to think critically, communicate confidently, and engage meaningfully with global perspectives.

Emphasis is placed on personal growth, goal-setting, and maintaining an active lifestyle in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Geometry

Geometry introduces students to the properties and relationships of geometric figures through logical reasoning, problem-solving, and real-world applications. Topics include points, lines, planes, angles, triangles, congruence, similarity, circles, area, volume, and coordinate geometry. Students will develop spatial thinking and proof-writing skills as they explore the connections between algebra and geometry. This course lays the groundwork for success in Algebra II and other advanced math courses.

Environmental Science

Environmental Science explores the relationships between humans and the natural world through the study of ecosystems, climate, natural resources, and environmental challenges. Students will investigate real-world issues such as pollution, conservation, sustainability, and energy use through labs, projects, and field studies. This interdisciplinary course combines biology, chemistry, and earth science, encouraging students to think critically about their role in protecting the planet.

Morality
(Religious Studies)

Morality explores the principles of right and wrong through the lens of religious and ethical traditions. Students examine how moral values are shaped by faith, culture, and personal beliefs while engaging in thoughtful discussions about contemporary ethical issues.
